Winter Competitions: The two Bowls Portugal leagues are now almost at the half way point (already? doesn't time fly?). Valverde are leading the field in the Premier League, and in mid-table in the SuperTens. After a poor start, Valverde have just taken the lead in the Pedras Winter Trophy (although Vilamoura have games in hand). Details of all these competitions can be followed via the Inter-club pages. In the new year Bowls Portugal are introducing a new league competition, in Australian Pairs format. This will run from mid-Jan to Mid-May, and is for teams of 6 (three pairs). A team may be all from one BP member club, or may be drawn from several clubs. Teams must be registered by 10th December, so any members who would like to participate need to get organised quickly!

Championships: Both the Club and the Bowls Portugal Championships (Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours) are now under way. Again, progress in these competitions can be followed via this website, through the Club Championships and pages.

Internationals: Congratulations to the many Valverde club members who were selected to represent Portugal in the recent Test Match and Iberian Challenge Cup matches against strong Spanish teams. The Iberian Challenge team (half of the team from the Valverde club) had a handsome victory, by 18 points to 6, retaining the trophy - which is now on display in the Valverde clubhouse. Unfortunately, the Test Match team (again with a good contingent from Valverde) were less successful.
Voucher Scheme: For those bowlers who make frequent but short visits to the area, we now offer a "pre-paid Green Fee Voucher" scheme, which may better suit their needs. For 160 euros, visitors may purchase a set of 20 vouchers, each valid as payment for one game. The vouchers may be used only by the purchaser and partner, and are valid for a period of six months.

Dates for your diary:
Monday 19th December - last club roll-up before club closes for green maintenance.
Monday 2nd January - Club reopens.
Wednesday 118th January - Open Members Meeting.
Thursday 22nd March - BP Championships Final Day at Valverde.
Saturday 31st March - Club Championships Final Day.

Christmas: A reminder that there is a box at the club to collect donations of (non-perishable) foodstuffs, blankets, clothing, etc, for distribution to the needy of the area for Christmas.

Membership: Club membership, as at today's date, stands at 52 (30 Full, 22 PAYP).
